Apparently, the Chicago Transit Authority is going to hell in a handbasket. You know, the more I read things like that and this John Kass column on corruption under Mayor Daley, I can't help but wonder if anything ever really changed in Chicago since the days of the big political machines and "Boss Daley." Not having lived there since the late seventies, (and then only briefly) I'm sure that I'm not in touch with the Illinois scene closely enough to be an objective observer. However, just from an outsider perspective, it often seems as if they just can't shake that reputation that dates back to the days of Scarface and the North Side mobs.

(ummm... just for the record, I'm not saying that there is any so called "mob" activity in Chicago. For that matter, I'm not even saying there really is a mafia at all. Just wanted to be very, very, very clear on that. Oh, and I really like and respect Italians.)
